Some would say that at 73 years old Bernie Sanders is "too old" to run for president. But those on the right forget that St. Ronald Reagan was 73 when he was re-elected president in 1984. Despite this, Bernie Sanders is still being lamblasted by the media as a "unorthodox" candidate. Sanders is a self-proclaimed "socialist" and the ears of the right-wingers everywhere perk up in fear that he will lead America further down the path toward Nazism. The right-wingers completely forgetting that Nazism was in fact a far-right wing reactionary group, not a far-left socialist utopia.
Bernie believes in expanding Social Security, campaign finance reform, holding the banks accountable for their actions that caused the Great Recession, and the icing on the cake is that he's for legalizing recreational marijuana nationally. What's not to love? For me, as a liberal atheist socialist myself, Bernie is my candidate. He is genuine, he isn't trying to change his accent to fit whatever state he visits (looking at you Hillary), he wants to champion noble causes like providing a single-payer universal healthcare system as well as a free college for students. As I've always said, how is helping people a bad thing?
Instead, the media thinks former Governor Martin O'Malley is a genuine competitor against Hillary, which is laughable. O'Malley has presided over a general decline of the state of Maryland, the events in Baltimore will no doubt sour his run for office. Any other democrats would be foolish to attempt to challenge Hillary, given her popularity with the base, but I suppose it is noble that they are willing to put themselves on the radar for 2020 or 2024.
Currently, the right-wing clown car is barely starting to rev up its engine. It is a veritable smorgasbord of insanity. First up, we have a couple of returning champions from the 2012 primaries: Rick Perry and Rick Santorum. Including a return from 2008 hopeful, Mike Huckabee. However, new to the stage is Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham and George Pataki. Chris Christie, Scott Walker and Donald Trump have yet to formally declare candidacy, while most of the candidates are neurotic "wackos", these three are so deluded to think anyone will vote for them in a national contest. Now for the serious candidates which are Rand Paul and the forever thirsty for power Marco Rubio. The party seems to be courting "the smart one" Jeb Bush, the heir to the Bush dynasty and the installment needed to complete the Bush trilogy, as their final nominee.
Bernie is already polling ahead of every republican candidate, however, he still lags behind Hillary. There is an anti-Hillary movement starting to take shape, which may put a dent in her campaign but I'd say the election is hers. But that kind of complacency could very well lead to the election of Bernie Sanders as the 45th President of the United States. It would be quite the gesture to select Bernie as Vice President however, in this man's opinion, it would almost certainly be a winning ticket. But Bernie would probably decline the useless job and return to Vermont to fight the republicans in the Senate, hopefully his campaign inspires others to challenge the status quo even though defeat may turn out to be certain.
Go git 'em, Bernie!
