How Would A Donald Trump Presidency Look Like?

*This post is entirely hypothetical and party satirical. -July 21, 2016: Businessman Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He selects Kelly Ayotte as his running-mate. -November 8, 2016: Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton loses the presidential election to Trump/Ayotte. -January 20, 2017: President Donald Trump and Vice President Kelly Ayotte are inaugurated. -First Term (2017-2021): President Trump uses the Republican majority in Congress to pass alot of conservative legislation but also pass much liberal legislation, surprisingly. Trump's plan to deport millions is not carried through on but a pathway to citizenship is granted. Trump caves on the repeal of Obamacare and instead adds provisions to it. Trump increases funding to the military/defense budget to allow the construction of more aircraft carriers and UAVs. Trump attacks without provocation the nation of Syria in order to destroy ISIS, the plan fails miserably and fu...

June 8, 2015 - That's the ticket! Sanders 2016

This morning, Jason Easley of politicususa.com reported that Bernie Sanders is gaining momentum among the Wisconsin Straw Poll. Sanders is currently at 41% among the Democrats, compared to Hillary's 49% of support among the party. They did remind us that straw polls don't count for anything as it only measures support by those in attendance. But I do think that this is only the beginning. As rival candidate Martin O'Malley and Vice President Joe Biden only managed to garner 3% each. I will reiterate a point made in the article, if this becomes a race between Hillary and Bernie, it will be a race about the issues and that's something that has been missing from American politics as of late. June 7, 2015 - Class of 2050 (part 1) (Fiction)

Maxine McKennie (Student, class of 2050) Tuesday, June 7, 2050 - Los Angeles, California, United States Today is the first day of the rest of my life. High school is over. I just got accepted into UC Berkeley and I think it's going to be amazing. I haven't declared a major just yet though. Mom used to tell me that when she was growing up it was really tough to attend college with the high cost of tuition. I'm glad that I don't have to pay back those immense student loans. Supposedly my grandfather owed $100,000! I'm glad the government was able to forgive the rest of his debt.  My grandparents were born in the 1980s, when they were adults things were starting to get worse. My grandpa told me that his parents took him to New York City when he was a young boy and he saw the World Trade Centers before they were attacked and destroyed. My parents grew up in a world that was changing and the more I think about it, the more frustrated I become. How did my great-...

June 6, 2015 - Intro to the Generations (Opinion)

Today in America, our youngest generations are growing up with at least three generations ahead of them. This is unheard of in human history. Some even have their parents, grandparents and great-grandparent living under the same roof. This has created some distinct generational differences. The Greatest Generation:  (typically born from 1901-1924~) Tom Brokaw described the generation in his book entitled, "The Greatest Generation" a s the " the greatest generation any society has ever produced." Many members of this generational group weathered the Great Depression and fought in World War II and made a substantial contribution to the war effort. Many members of this generation are over 100 or at least 91, as of 2015.  The Silent Generation:  (typically born from 1925-1942/1945~) This generational group is described as having fewer members as the financial insecurity of the 1930s and the war in the 1940s caused many couples to have fewer children. It include...

June 5, 2015 - Idealized America (part 1)

*This entry was slated for yesterday, June 5, but had to be delayed until today. Imagine if you will, that you awake tomorrow morning in your bed. You are well-rested. You pull out your phone and thumb through your apps. Each gathered in folders, i.e. news, messaging and science, etc. The news is covering important free elections in foreign countries and domestic affairs here at home. You place your phone back on your night-stand and move toward the kitchen to grab a box of cereal. Nothing seems different. But, something feels off. Almost serene and balanced. You exit your house after you have showered and dressed and you move toward your hybrid electric car, which impresses you since it gets fifty miles per gallon. You look see that each house has solar panels are painted to appear the same colors as the roof tiles. You drive down the street and see a cop dressed in his uniform with holstered a taser gun, no lethal weaponry in sight. He enters a healthy fast food restaurant f...

June 4, 2015 - Walking on Stars & Stripes! OH! (Opinion)

To many in the United States, the desecration of the American flag is almost sacrilegious. All over this country, we have seen people from sea to shining sea, spray paint the flag with effigies and/or  derogatory language aimed at authority figures. In some places, it is a completely justified reaction, in others it is a completely unjustified over-reaction. With recent events in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland, we have seen many African-Americans act out in rage over the deaths of Michael Brown and Freddie Gray. Two men who are victims of the criminal activity of white cops.  We forget in the country, especially among the white populace that discriminatory crime against black civilians by white cops is the reality. Many conservative commentators would redirect the "facts" of white vs. white or black vs. black crime to be even larger statistically than white on black crime. However, this fact should not make the deaths of black men by racist white cops...

June 3, 2015 - Weekend at Bernie's

Some would say that at 73 years old Bernie Sanders is "too old" to run for president. But those on the right forget that St. Ronald Reagan was 73 when he was re-elected president in 1984. Despite this, Bernie Sanders is still being lamblasted by the media as a "unorthodox" candidate. Sanders is a self-proclaimed "socialist" and the ears of the right-wingers everywhere perk up in fear that he will lead America further down the path toward Nazism. The right-wingers completely forgetting that Nazism was in fact a far-right wing reactionary group, not a far-left socialist utopia. Bernie believes in expanding Social Security , campaign finance reform, holding the banks accountable for their actions that caused the Great Recession, and the icing on the cake is that he's for legalizing recreational marijuana nationally. What's not to love? For me, as a liberal atheist socialist myself, Bernie is my candidate. He is genuine, he isn't trying to cha...
